Damilola, Our Loved Boy: TV drama tells tragic story that made headline

NEW on TV!  Damilola, Our Loved Boy, 8.30pm, BBC One

The tragic death of 10-year-old primary school boy, Damilola Taylor in south London, killed by two teenage gang members shocked the nation and made headlines around the world in 2000

However, the story behind those headlines makes up the basis for this deeply moving drama.

The story was made with the support of Damilola’s loved ones, and the drama begins in Lagos, Nigeria, seven months before the tragic death of Damilola

Damilola (played by Sammy Kamara) is a football-obsessed child who doesn’t want to miss out when his sister Gbemi, who has epilepsy, has the chance of NHS treatment in their birth city of London.

We are not shown what happened on that fateful afternoon or much of the killers’ trial.

Instead, we see Damilola’s parents, Richard (Babou Ceesay) and Gloria (Wunmi Mosaku), struggling to keep their family together and fighting for justice. The unknown cast help to deliver a powerful 90 minutes of television. Truly must-see.
