BENIN—A 24-year-old man, John Kaduna, has been sentenced to a one year jail time period for robbing his boss, Mr. Nosa Orhue.
John, who worked as a security personnel, was accused of stealing N65,000 and other gadgets worth N150,000. The gadgets included an I-pad cellphone worth N128,000; a Nokia Torch light telephone, N4,500; a wristwatch valued at N1,500; a bag worth N4,500 and 6 garments valued at N12,000.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge labelled against him, was said to have fallen for the offence in February at 11, Orhue Crescent, Evbuodia quarters in Benin, the Edo state capital.
Presiding magistrate F. E. Akhere sentenced him to 365 days imprisonment or an option of N30,000 fine.
Other two persons; Amos Daniel and Peter Godwin, who had been arraigned with John Kaduna, have been sentenced to six months imprisonment as well or a choice of N10,000 fine.
Amos and Peter were found guilty of unlawful procurement of items stolen by using John. They pleaded guilty to just one count charge preferred against them and begged the court for leniency, pronouncing they had been unaware that the objects were stolen.
The magistrate directed that the recovered items be taken back to the lawful owner 30 days after the judgment.
