Interview with Isaac K, Nigerian born U.K. based singer

Tell us what music is to you?

I use music to put the world into perspective. I keep a journal where I document my thoughts and ideas. These translate into songs.

When did you start singing?

I started singing in church as a tenor. When I hit puberty I had to learn my voice again. After that I was able to sing baritone as well as tenor.
Are you an independent singer or are you part of an independent band?
I am an independent musician. Although currently I’m putting together a band for live shows.
What was your first single?
My first single titled ‘Tuscany’ was released early 2016. I am comparing an emotion to the Italian
What genre do you sing?
I’d describe my sound as modern Motown.
Who are your musical inspiration?
Some of my musical inspirations include – Nina Simone , MJ, Freddie Mercury, Prince, Fela Kuti, Aretha Franklin.
Do you play any musical instruments?
Some people don’t count Vocals as an instrument but I do . I also play some piano.

Where have you performed or what places do you normally perform at?

I have performed at the Southbank Centre , Royal Festoval Hall, Royal Albert Hall and the Roundhouse to name a few.

Do you write your own lyrics?
I write all my lyrics and melodies.
At this point you are in your music career, is there any advice you would like to give aspiring musicians out there? Or is there a ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’ that you would like to share?
At this point in my career , Only advice I can give is to be persistent and be as professional as possible.
What kind of person are you? Are you more of a funny person or the serious kind?
I don’t take myself too seriously. When it’s time to work , I’m plugged in.
